"The idea for a choir was hatched over a card table by a few friends," is how an early description of Issaquah Singers begins. Founders Dan and Fran Pope had recently moved to Issaquah, Washington from Ohio where they had been members of a choir at Wesley University. Public service announcements were published in the Issaquah Press and the choir was launched. The choir was originally called Issaquah Chorale.
formed in 1976, sings without charge at two senior living centers about every six weeks on Saturdays during the school year and at occasional civic and special events. In June an annual free concert for the community is presented. Uplifting and inspirational popular music, primarily from the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, is the mainstay of our concerts. A sing-along is always included. Choir members range in age from the 20's to the 80's. All participants, including the director and accompanist, volunteer their talents to the efforts of the choir.
Education and a focus in choral conducting from Whitworth University. She has studied under Dr. Frank Green at Washington State University and Dr. Thomas Tavener and Dr. Milton Johnson at Whitworth University. In 1997 she earned a Masters of Education from Seattle University. She inherited a large amount of vintage music from her mother and has added to the collection over the years.
